Harrisburg Academy is the 17th oldest non-public school in the nation and the Harrisburg area’s only independent school.  Our coed, diverse school community inspires students by providing an academically challenging and globally minded liberal arts education where students learn 21st century skills in a personalized environment.  The Academy proudly stands as the first school in the region to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and merit scholarship.

Our students, preschool through high school, are well-rounded scholars and artists, talented athletes and musicians, and globally minded philanthropists, and they all benefit from the advantages of a small learning community each and every day — and the advantages are many.  From dynamic classroom experiences, to strong learning outcomes, to strength of character, an Academy education is truly something more and something different.

This blog offers a peek into our school’s vibrant learning community, shared through the experiences and observations of a dynamic group of Academy community members.  Our contributors aim to explore the value of independent schools, the intriguing lessons being taught in our classroom and on the athletics fields, and the overall experiences of a student embarking on his or her educational journey here at Harrisburg Academy.  We hope that you will join us on this remarkable journey – check back often, and learn what makes the Academy such a wonderful place to work and learn!
