February is special for many “sweet” reasons, but for our swimming and basketball teams, it is time to get down to business. This is where all that practice pays off or should pay off. Our Varsity Swim team competed at the Northern Polar Bear Plunge Feb. 15-16. Freshmen standouts, Alex S. ‘22 and Zoe G. ‘22, qualified for the PIAA District 3 Tournament at Cumberland Valley High School slated for March 1-2, 2019.  In addition, 10 swimmers dropped personal times at the Plunge. The swim season has given the students many new experiences and the opportunity to meet new friends since joining the East Pennsboro Swim team for practice at their pool. Head coach, Chris Clark, is at the top of her game and challenging her team to new heights.  I’m looking forward to attending the upcoming meets. Read more about swimming from Coach Clark’s interview with Pennlive.

Through our cooperative sponsorship with Trinity High School, senior Max M. ‘19 wrestled (285 lbs.) at the sectionals tournament at Susquenita High School on Feb. 15-16 placing 3rd and advanced to the PIAA District 3 Tournament.

On the hardwood, the Middle School Girls’ Basketball team repeated as the Central Pennsylvania Basketball League Champions by defeating the Harrisburg Jewish Community Center (JCC) by a score of 38-16. The Middle School Boys’ Basketball team lost in the semi-finals 14-40 vs. the JCC who went on to capture the championship.

The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team lost in the MAC semi-finals 23-49 to #2 seed St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy (SJCA) on Thursday, Feb. 14.  The Varsity Boys’ Basketball team lost to SJCA in the championship game on Saturday, Feb. 16 by a score of 46-77.  They returned home on Monday, Feb. 18 to capture a PIAA District 3 Class A Tournament (first round) win against Linville Hill Christian School (46-31). The Spartans traveled to Halifax High School on Thursday, Feb. 21 and lost the quarterfinal game against #1 seed Halifax (42-86).  The Boys’ are up next at Mount Calvary Christian School on Monday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.

Spartan spirit is running high and I hope all of you can show your blue and gold spirit by attending the games. The team members love to see their teachers, parents, and friends in the stands!

Go, Spartans!
