IB Coordinators’ Corner: Learn Boldly with the IB Learner Profile

One way to get to know a school is through its Mission Statement: “Harrisburg Academy offers an academically challenging and globally minded interdisciplinary education. In our commitment to excellence, we provide tools, develop character, and teach skills that prepare students to thrive in college and beyond, thereby contributing to the betterment of our global and local communities.”

Through these skills that we nurture in our students from preschool through graduation and beyond, our students become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. The 21st century learning outcomes of the IB Learner Profile unite the Primary Years Program (PYP),  the Middle Years Program (MYP), and the Diploma Program (DP) in all divisions of our school and set the tone for everything we do as lifelong learners at Harrisburg Academy.

These ten traits of the IB learner profile exemplify what it means to Learn Boldly at Harrisburg Academy. Daily inquiry through digging deep and asking questions, solving problems in unique ways, identifying and contributing each other’s strengths to work together to reach a goal, reflecting for personal and academic growth, and seeking out opportunities to engage in local and global action are just some of the ways we Learn Boldly at Harrisburg Academy at every age. Our goal as educators is always grounded in growing students to their highest capacity,  and where we shine at Harrisburg Academy is teaching our students how to embrace learning opportunities and grow beyond where they ever thought they could.
