Last month was the start of an exciting season for the Middle School Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams. It was great to see both teams in action preparing for their first games. Although both Middle School teams have many new players on their rosters, the teams are motivated to have another successful season.
The Middle School Boys’ Basketball team is led by head coach, Derek Coates, who looks to rebound from a tough loss last year in the Central Pennsylvania Basketball League (CPBL) Championship and compete for the title this year. A few of the team’s key returning players this year are Luke P. ’19, Wil S. ’19 and Ben S. ’19. The Middle School Girls’ Basketball team, led by head coach, Lindsay Bowman, looks to build off last year’s CPBL Championship by going for the title a second year in a row. Several of the important players are Charlotte N. ’19, Lissette V. ’19 and Maci W. ’19. The teams already seem motivated to compete this year, making for a fun and exciting season for both teams!
The Academy’s Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams started practice in November and look to build off their 2013-14 season success. Although the Varsity Boys’ Basketball team lost two productive seniors from last year’s season, they bring back the core of their team who are led by veteran coach Steve Pancoski. The three key returning players are leading scorer Jalen G. ’17, Josh G. ’15 and Jini G. ’15. They look to build off their first-round PIAA District III victory by taking the championship in the newly formed Midstate Athletic Conference (MAC) and making a deep run into districts.
On the other side, the Varsity Girls’ Basketball team, led by Coach Mary Toth, look to build off their first-round PIAA District III appearance by making some noise in district play this year. They only lost one key senior from last year’s team and bring back a lot of experience in their rotation. Three of the returning key players this season are leading scorer Laura M. ’16, Claire M. ’16 and Rachel D. ’15. In addition, they will also compete to win a conference title in the MAC.
We are excited for this basketball season and encourage you to come out. Hope we see you in the stands!
