Spartan Talent – Celebrating Our Athletes

Highlighting our student athletes is the best part of my job at Harrisburg Academy. It was snowing outside this winter season, but indoors, the Spartans were heated in the pool. Beyond the Academy records, our student athletes were recognized by  local news outlets and at the PIAA District and State levels.

PennLive awarded Senior, Max M. ’19 2nd Team Mid-Penn Capital Division All-Star for his 3rd place finish in the PIAA District 3 Wrestling Tournament in the 285 pound weight class and freshmen swimming sensations, Zoe G. ’22 and Alex S. ’22 for First Team and Honorable Mention, respectively. The Carlisle Sentinel selected Zoe and Alex for All-Sentinel Honorable Mention. In addition, Zoe received the distinguished honor of being selected to First Team All-State for her 8th place finish in the 100 fly at the PIAA State Tournament at Bucknell University.  Both swimmers captured medals at the PIAA District 3 swim meet held at Cumberland Valley High School.  Zoe placed 4th in the 100 free and 2nd in the butterfly. Alex placed 4th in the 200 free and 5th in the 500 free. Veteran coach, Chris Clark, was extremely proud of them.  Rounding out the winter season, were the league All-Star selections:

Middle School Central Pennsylvania Basketball League (CPBL):  Josh F. ’23, Camryn H. ’23, Zoe B. ’23, and Roman J. ’22.

Varsity Basketball Midstate Athletic Conference (MAC) First Team:  Liam D. ’20, Alexa N. ’21, Julian G. ’22, with Honorable Mentions for Charlotte N. ’19 and Dominic S. ’21.

Looking ahead, Jacob G. ’19 and Daniel F. ’22, our #1 and #2 seed respectively, will compete in the PIAA Singles Tennis Tournament at Hershey Racquet Club on April 24. Both players finished the season with a winning percentage above .600.

The West Shore Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame will honor top senior athletes, Alec W. ’19 and Charlotte N. ’19 for the Scholar-Athlete award at a luncheon in May.  This is the Academy’s first representation with the West Shore Chapter and we are excited to recognize and celebrate our student athletes with other schools on the west shore.
