The third grade class of Harrisburg Academy loves to read. They eagerly look forward to Readers’ Workshop each day and visiting the Claire Reynolds Joyce Lower School Library each week. According to Mrs. Binnert, Early Childhood/Lower School librarian, the third grade class has checked out over 1000 books, the most books in our division!

Every week, each student selects a picture book to share with their Kindergarten Reading Buddy, which is one reason why third grade has checked out so many library books. Each third grade student was matched with a student in Mrs. Novakoski’s Kindergarten class in the fall.  On most Thursdays, both classes meet for fifteen to twenty minutes to read to each other. Third grade students share favorite books, and the Kindergarten students practice their developing reading skills. The third grade students have really enjoyed getting to know the Kindergarteners and watching them grow as readers!
