by guest blogger, Taylor Pettis ’10, Communications Office summer intern

I am honored to have had the valuable opportunity to intern in the Communications Office at Harrisburg Academy this summer.  I have always been thankful for the wonderful experiences the Academy provided me during my high school, and even college, years.  Since graduating from the Academy in 2010, I have been attending Bloomsburg University to study organizational communications. Serving as an intern at the Academy this summer was a perfect complement to my college studies so far.

This summer, I was mentored by Kristina Pae and Mary Campbell, who together are the Communications Office at the Academy.  I can’t begin to thank them enough for all I have learned over the past few months.  During my internship, I witnessed all the hard work and dedication the Communications Office has put into building and launching a new Harrisburg Academy website (which is going to be phenomenal!).   I learned about web building and design, which will be a vital skill as a young woman soon to start a career in communication.  One aspect I saw this summer as an intern was not how hard each department works individually, but how effectively all the offices work as a group to advance the mission of the Academy.  After seeing both sides of Harrisburg Academy, I appreciate how much of a family this community is and I feel honored to have had the chance to continue learning as an intern here this summer.

Above all things I have learned, one thing I am always sure about is how much the Academy means to me.  Three years later, I still felt a sense of comfort every time I walked down the halls.  Something about the multicolored lockers always seems to fill my mind with all the great memories and experiences I have from this school. Thank you again, Harrisburg Academy, for a wonderful summer.
