Walking through the doors at Harrisburg Academy two weeks ago as the new Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations was an eye opening experience. Before accepting my position at the Academy, I did my research. I read as much as I could about the school and determined that the Academy was the best fit for me. What I didn’t realize was that Harrisburg Academy really does have “Something More. Something Different.”

Right at the start, I took the opportunity to venture around campus and sit in on many classes, from HATS to the International Baccalaureate History class. With a small notepad in hand, I observed these classes with the intention of sharing my experience with the alumni and donors I will soon encounter. Here’s a little peek into what I jotted down in that notebook:

  • Truly amazing
  • Students at complete attention
  • Students are actively engaged in discussion
  • Teachers genuinely care about each student
  • Value of small

And the list continues. I was impressed, and while there are many excellent schools in the area, I don’t know any that are making an impact quite like Harrisburg Academy.

I have already met several alumni, and all have shared positive and life-changing experiences they had here at the Academy. As the new Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations, I want to work with our alumni to continue the philosophy of “Something More. Something Different.” Harrisburg Academy will benefit from alumni engagement in student internships, alumni presentations during our distinguished leaders in residence program, and alumni support in giving back to the institution that has prepared many for successful and engaging careers. I look forward to interacting with many of you over the coming weeks, months, and years to discuss your experience and how you can engage with the continuously growing Academy community.
